Friterie might be the most well known eating establisment in Belgium.
They are easily found everywhere in this fried potatoes place of origin *so stop calling French fries, it's actually from Belgium!
In Mons, Chez Bily is one of local's favorite place to grab some quick bites.
And it was our friend Kamil who mentioned about this place, since he lived nearby and the place has always been a saviour for his late night cravings.
During lunch time, it's busy with local university students and government official because service is quick, food is yummy and cheap. Same story at night because it located in Rue de la Cléf, neighboring to the lively bar scene of Marché aux Herbes, so it also considered as a cool hang out spot.

The place is such an easy option because it simply offers same things you'll find in any other friteries, but the price and quality of food has made everyone happy.
We would always order the same thing, the hamburger + frites (3 - 3.50 EUR).
The hamburger placed inside a paper cone which you normally have when having frites. While it straddle inside, the fried potatoes is filled until the paper cone is full and a dollop of sauce with spice powder added on top of it.
The burger bun is soft.
The meat has a nice texture with a perfect mixture of seasoning.
The frites said the best around town.
But my favorite would be the sauces. People mostly ask for ketchup. It looks like a normal tomato sauce, but somehow taste so different. Not sour or accidic. It taste very sweet, like they put cherry in it. And the chili sauce is also yummy.
Since the place is so small, most people come for a take away.
There are few tables on the back, without chair.
You can watch this video and see how Bily run the business.
The only problem I have is the opening hours. It says on the door, open for lunch from 11.15 am-2 pm and 8 pm to 3 am. But no one seems to know when Bily would actually open the door. Well, he writes notification if closing the friterie for a certain period during school holiday, but there were times I got disappointed when I thought it's open, but it's not. Oh well.. maybe should start join Bily's Facebook for updates.
