Le Musée François Duesberg

If coming to Mons by train, the nearest attraction you’ll find few meters away from the station would be this museum.
It was opened on 21 September 1994 and devoted to decorative arts from the period 1775 to 1825.
Located opposite the St. Waudru Church, in the former buildings of the National Bank of Belgium, it houses a prestigious collection of clocks and mantel clocks, exceptional gilded French bronzes, porcelain (mainly from Paris and Brussels), pottery, jewelry and unusual rare and unique objects.
It was founded by François Duesberg and his wife and the collections focus on the periods of Louis XVI, Charles X of France and of the First French Empire under Napoleon.

Me and Prince Charming decided to visit the museum in one Saturday afternoon.
We rang the bell, waited for few minutes, and with few other visitors warmly welcomed by the owner.
He’s a charming old man and very much excited telling all the stories about the museum.

It’s truly a beautiful museum.
The pieces carefully arranged by theme.
We spent the whole afternoon enjoying the details of the collections.
I would say this museum is the jewel of Mons. And it received two stars in the Michelin guide.
