Every year in early fall (September/ October), the wind blows from Liverpool to Mons. And it’s the annual Beatles
Day in Mons.
It’s all started in August 1987
when three Montois went on a pilgrimage to the birthplace of the legendary quartet in
Liverpool. They celebrated the annual Beatles Week. During the trip back to Mons,
an idea popped up. They dream of having similar event in Belgium.
In
September 1988 the first Beatles Convention was held in the halls of Waux-Hall
Mons. It’s the first gathering of its kind in Belgium. In 1992, the organizers
decided to expand the Convention by introducing the traditional notion of
"Beatles and Culture" that is to say, combine all forms of culture.. art, music, words, career, life and memory of The Beatles. The event changed its name and
became "Beatles Day" with exhibitions, various workshops and concerts
attended by thousands of fans.
Since
2012 the event takes place in Lotto Mons Expo and offers wide range of
activities.
I bet my Dad will be excited for the event.
