This remarkable Mons festival began in 1999 and has grown to become the largest annual gathering.
It commemorates the Liberation of Belgium during WWII known as the Battle of Mons, and the largest gathering of WWII tanks, amongst many other examples, in the world.
Tanks in Town organizes each year a tremendous concentration of restored and armored vehicles of WWII. On the weekend, they're peacefully invade the historic center.
I always excited to see those vehicles on the street before they reached the Grand Place.
Noises from the engines, rusty vehicles and people in military uniforms seem to recall the war era.
This is a very unique opportunity. Not only we can admire and touch those vehicles, it's also possible to ride the tanks. There's also a flea market of WWII memorabilia and music performance during the event.
