We were in Brussels, having coffee at Starbucks at the Central Station after
an event at the Embassy on early April 2014. Our friend, a Bruxellois we met at
the event sent a text message, asking where we were and if we’re okay. He seemed
worry when he told us there’s a shooting in Mons. I was so shocked and scared. Prince
Charming tried to found out about it by calling a friend in Mons but no one
knew about it while I browsed the latest news on the internet.
The scariest part was because the shooter, a man opened fire in a broad
daylight, around Rue d'Havré, not far
from the Grand Place. A man died at the scene.
I
couldn’t stop imagine.. It was a nice Saturday. Warm and beautiful. If we weren’t
in Brussels, we might have been around the area.
When I
searched for more informations about the incident, apparently there were also
another shooting, about a week earlier at the Boulevard Sainctelette.
For
days I live in fear and worries. I was so scared to go out, especially alone.
He told me it’s drug and romance-related crime, not a random shoot, so I should
not bother. But somehow, my perception about living in this town no longer the
same, and it's gonna take a while for me to feel normal again.
