In late November 2014 I signed up to participate for a
project for the opening night of Mons 2015. It’s called Song Lines. Have to
sing a song by Salvatore Adamo, “Tombe la Neige”, in native language.
It wasn’t an easy task. Took days to translate, interpret and
re-write it with the most matching phrase possible.
The day of the recording and photo shoot session, I bailed
out and let Prince Charming did the part. He was kinda mad at me. But I felt
like we only need a person to represent it and he’s the one who deserves the
credits.. and he’s a lot better singer than I do!
The snow in the morning has made this song sounds dramatic
for the opening day of Mons 2015.
Walking down Rue de la Poterie at a steady pace, we
slowly heard the song. The hit tune successively in all the languages, with an
enlarged photo of these Mons singers from every part of the globe. A
multicultural tribute by Flemish collective Het Pakt to the native son of
Mons, Salvatore Adamo - Belgian composer and singer of Italian ancestry.
When we thought the photos was going to be projected into a
plain white sheet, we didn’t thought it’s going to be hung up there with dress
and even underwear, like in a laundry day. It said that the concept inspired
from a little street in Italy where Salvatore Adamo came from.
They shuffled the song with every sentences sang by different
person. The speaker put in a box with a photo of the singer. There were few
people noticed him as one of the singer. Proud that he’s one of the celebrity
of the night!
