In Mons, there are two main shopping areas:
Le Piétonnier
The pedestrian shopping street in Rue de la Chaussée nearby the Grand Place.
This commercial street is one of the oldest street in Mons and the first cobbled road. Many events took place along the street, from the chocolate festival to the Fashion Day.
Le Rouge-puits (The Red Well Fountain) To the right is Rue de la Chaussée |
There are not many shops, so I manage to name a few.
- Clothing: Bershka, Levi's, Naf Naf, Promod, C&A, Pimkie
- Beauty: Ici Paris XL, Yves Rocher
- Lingerie: Hunkemöller
- Footwear: Foot Locker, JD
- Home decor: Casa
- Eat & drink: Delifrance
- Media: Press Shop
- Telecommunication
- Recommended chain retailer: HEMA, Wibra and Kruidvat which have wide variety of snacks, clothing and homeware in low price.
- Services: BNP Paribas Fortis and ING with cash machines near the fountain.
Don't forget the Passage du Centre a covered area around this shopping street.
There are also small shops selling non-branded clothing and footwear, travel agents. For quick bites, you can find at least 3 booths selling cheap and yummy waffles, granita and ice cream.
In case you're wondering.. where to buy Belgian chocolates.. you can find famous Belgian chocolates such as Neuhaus and Leonidas opposite each other in Grand Rue (still along this main shopping street).
Shops open Monday-Saturday, mostly from 9.30 am - 6 pm.
Les Grands Prés
Mother's Day at the mall |
This one and only mall located outside of the town center. Don't expect to find a huge or luxurious shopping mall, Les Grands Prés is very small. Way too small compared to the smallest shopping mall at home *a bit shocked. Normally very crowded on Saturday afternoon. Free and wide parking space available.
It has more interesting shops like Zara, Mango, Women's Secret, Esprit, L'Occitane, Apple premium reseller, hair salons, Carrefour and IKEA.
There's a cinema, Imagix nearby. But all films most likely to be dubbed in French.
Other shopping area:
- Le quartier des Fripiers with small boutiques if you prefer to find other than famous chain retailer.
- Rue d'Havré with smaller shops and Le Pain Quotidien.
