Foire d'automne

When autumn comes the night becomes noticeably earlier and chilly.
The sky turns grey, and some people would be melancholic. A friend said.. it's the season of the year when falling leaves followed by raising tempers.

But in Mons, the months of November and December definitely have the liveliest night scene because there's an autumn fair. The town transformed into an amazing amusement park. Colorful lights and funny jingles blast from booths and rides. So much fun everywhere. And it's good to know we're encouraged to beat the cold weather, go out and enjoy the night.

Amusement rides begin to operate around 4 pm and there are three spots with different attractions around town.

Grand Place
Biggest and most attractive, with most attractions designed for family with children.
It has a beautiful carousel, mirror maze funhouse, sidestalls & games and snack stalls for the sweet tooth. A giant hotdog is also worth to try.

Place Léopold
Crowds of mostly teens with few thrill rides.

Les Grands Prés
Located somewhere in an empty area near the shopping/ entertainment complex, away from the city center. Less attractions, no food stalls.. very quiet. But with the newly built roads which give easier access to inhabitants living in nearby towns, I'm sure it soon will be packed as well.

This autumn fair finally gave me a good reason to hang out outdoor after dark and forget about my winter blues, listening to people laugh joyfully and see kids smile happily around the arena. And of course the typical sweet treats in autumn fair like Pomme d'amour (candy apple) to fritters from CroustillonsBeignets aux pommes and Churros never fail to lift my mood.
