C'est l'doudou

I don’t know where and how to start if it comes to the Ducasse de Mons or Doudou.
The week of Doudou is the most happening event here in Mons. Everyone seems very excited about it and take part in many activities.

When the Doudou weekend comes, guess it’s time to forget a good night sleep for a while.
Mons becomes so crowded and I haven't seen that many people.
The feast actually happens during Trinity Sunday but people started to party even days before (Thursday I guess) and it's non-stop for about a week.
That's why a neighbour decided to have a holiday away from the town in this weekend.

Loud music playing from every corner from early afternoon until dawn.
There's a free concert organized by local radio featuring local artists.
Many drink stalls open pretty early and the result: many people got drunk when it’s not even dark outside *grin.
Small road around the Grand Place and Marché aux Herbes (with several bars) full packed of people. And things can be a lot crazier than this video. The streets become sticky and smelly for days.

It was one crazy night.. we were stuck in the middle of the crowds who mostly drunk. They began to push each other in the narrow road and we're squeezed. I lost my camera pouch on the way. But thank God we made home safely *sorry for the bad quality photos here.

Well.. things can be chaotic when too much people having too much fun. But don’t worry, there are some Gardien de la Paix or the peacekeepers patrol around town for public safety and will help with some informations.

Despite of the madness, it's a nice week, really.
The vibe is just different.
Many shops are having Doudou sale and it's very busy in the shopping street because things can be very cheap.

In case you're hungry, many eateries make a small stall in front of their place so you can fill your stomach with anything you like from pasta to dim sum and of course typical food you find in friterie. Easy and cheap choice if you want to stay outdoor and enjoy the scene. You can also find portable toilets in some areas.

Lotto Mons Expo/ Les Grands Prés complex would be a good choice to park your car. You can take the free buses from there to the town center. Be patient because they run less frequently and have different route than usual.

If you need to plan a visit for the next Doudou, you can check at the website.
Bonne Ducasse!
