Found out about this place from
my English Meetup group.
On thursday night during Easter
holiday, it was packed and loud.
One of the most hip and happening
places in Mons, hosting a stand up comedy to DJ performances.
Le Routard’s recommendation 2017.
One could easily missed the spot
because there was only a huge gate and a hall connecting the main building few
meters away in the back, through a semi open terrace.
Located near a fountain when
walking from the Grand Place towards shopping street.
Had been wanted to come back for
the Fish & Chips since I was craving for a good one, like my favorite in London.
What I usually have when ordering
this menu around here, it mostly came out as a fish sticks and fries.
When I came again (September 30,
2017) with Prince Charming for a dinner, it wasn’t so busy.
When we greeted, some of them are
native English speakers.
During weekend dinnertime, there
were only one or two tables having full meal. Guess most of people come
for the drinks and snacks.
It’s a great hang out place indeed.
Good ambience, cozy and spacious
with U-shaped bar counter.
More like a pub than a café or
bar.
Interior dominated by wooden
panels, leather and velvet.
Menu is very limited. Simply in
one piece of paper. Most of them are burgers. Also two types of Fish &
Chips and salads. Also few selections of snacks and bites. That’s it. Drinks
are much more interesting, with amazing array from renowned whiskey, premium
cocktails, to warm non-alcoholic drinks.
Onion rings (5 EUR/ 7 pc) was
meant to be our starter. But it came out with the Fish & Chips (14 EUR),
making the table so full and cramped. Food were nicely presented and taste
amazing!
The batter for both onion rings
and fish were sooo good!
Thick, crunchy and huge onion
rings. We chose whiskey pepper for the sauce and it was a nice pairing. Creamy
and a little spicy from the fresh black peppercorns.
Although I was a bit disappointed
looking at the fish because the batter not quite like I expected, but it turned
out to be more than what I had imagined. Slab of fresh and fatty fish served
with homade potato wedges in mini fryer basket, tartar sauce and salad with
vinaigrette.
His Basil & Lemon Tempura
seemed to have layer of flavors and all came through nicely. But my Classic
Fish & Chips which covered in panko bread crumbs was a perfect match to the
sauce. On contrary to the wet-bottom fish, potato was not greasy at all.
Dessert was not written on the
menu. Only one each day and it’s chef’s specialty, nuts and blueberry brownies
with vanilla ice cream (5 EUR). Chewy and gooey, perfect to end the meal.
Later when more people came, I
realized they kinda dimmed the light and pumped up the music. The waiter seemed
to forgot telling us at the very beginning when ordering our food, actually
we can have it and enjoy our dinner in separate area with bigger table, less people and not too noisy. But it doesn’t matter, really.
Will come back for the drinks!
