Driving to Mons?

Don't let this happen!

No idea if the owner of this fancy car from Germany try to get attentions by parking the vehicle beside the forbidden sign or so desperate to get a parking space. It's only few meters away from the newly renovated covered Parking Halle (in Rue de la Halle), the closest yet convenient to the Grand Place. But it's mostly full, especially when there's an event took place.  

Avoid parking in the centre and choose the easy option!

There’s a free supervised car park on the outskirts called Le Grand Large, signposted from exit 24 of the E19-E42 with the international P+R sign. For the weekends and holidays, there’s a free shuttle buses to the centre (stop at Place du Parc, not far from the Grand Place)  every 8 minutes, from 9 am to 11 pm.

We had our friends coming to Mons and tried it. They said very much happy about it. 

A New Roundabout

It took years to build and turned out looking nice.

This roundabout connects Mons to smaller towns (including the Les Grands Prés shopping-entertainment complex) and the highway. You’ll notice it when getting in and out of Mons.

Discover Mons by Bike

Cycling is not really popular in Mons, but there are times (especially in the warm summer days), I've seen few people ride their bikes. Usually during the day some kids from school cycling around town, with their teachers guided and showed them some rules on the street.

Cycling is very safe in Mons because there are bike lanes in bigger roads and mostly empty. Not like in Amsterdam, which is very hectic.

Me and Prince Charming think having a bike is not a good investment because just like others, we mostly walk around Mons. But since 2011, like in many big cities in Europe, the local government gives the opportunity for the Montois and visitors to rent a bike, located around the train station.

Free Buses in Mons!

One thing I really like about Mons is the reliable transportation.
It’s because we have free buses going around Mons.
Yes, I repeat.. it’s free!


The bus has red-yellow-grey colors on it with huge “Mons” and some has “Mons 2015” stickers on the side part.

Mons Intra Muros

The drivers are very friendly. But it's sometimes can be frustrating during the morning rush hour because it's always full. 
Drunk man or graffiti inside the bus, I consider it as an onboard entertainment.

Vandalism do happen

Since November 2010, Mons Intra Muros has 4 different circuits with newer and more comfortable buses. Bigger and nicer, with priority chairs for pregnant women, disabled and seniors.

The circuit A, B and C serving downtown Mons and depart from the bus station facing the train station at the Place Léopold. It’s perfect for those coming to Mons using train/ bus. While the circuit D is going to outer ring of Mons to the Les Grands Prés, the shopping and entertainment complex. 
Just hop in and hop off all around Mons.
Simple and free of charge!

The Mons Intra Muros itself operate everyday (except Sunday) from 7 am to 9 pm (every 15 minutes). 
Here’s the route and stops. 

If going to towns outside of Mons (ex: Van Gogh house in Cuesmes), we can take other TEC bus (charged by zone). Schedule displayed inside the train station.

Other means of transportation in Mons is taxi, infront of the train station. The only choice of transport if coming to Mons after 10 pm.

While riding a bicycle is not very common in Mons.
People prefer and enjoy walking.

Getting around Mons is super easy. Walk around and enjoy the view. Also thanks to the free buses, getting around even easier!
